Generic versions of Januvia already tested

Jeil, Shinpoong, and SK Chemicals got green light to bioequivalence testing for their generic version of Januvia, the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety said on May 23.

Januvia sales are about 100 billion won annually. Although Januvia goes off patent in September 2023, some generic drug makers are in a hurry to get marketing approval before March 2015 when the drug approval-patent linkage system gets effective.

Those pharmaceutical companies just want to roll out their generic versions on time without any delay due to the new approval system.

Cialis has the same story. The patent on Cialis expires in September 2015, but many drugmakers have already started developing their generic version of Cialis to finish it up early.
