The government decided to allow over-the-counter (OTC) cold medicines and other first aid medications to be sold at some hotels and resorts where 24-hour convenience stores are not accessible to travelers.

The Ministry of Health and Welfare said it will add more locations as special areas in March 2015 so that citizens can have access to OTC drugs.

Industry experts expect the latest addition will not affect pharmacies much because golf courses, ski resorts, cruise ships and some stores in remote areas have been already allowed to sell OTC drugs.
